In the darkest days of the war, when starvation stalked the land, it is said that some men turned to eating the flesh of the dead -- and then, the flesh of the living. Perhaps that is the origin of Dampeer, a monster who feeds on the lifeforce of his foes, spreading terror before his tattered wings, his pants the only remnants of his humanity.
Dampeer has extremely high survivability and damage output from spells, making him unique amongst item-dependent melee carries. However, his success is highly dependent on the Essence charges he obtains from Consume.

Each Essence increases the damage by 30 and heal by 10.

Dampeer takes a massive bite of an enemy's flesh, inflicting damage and healing himself for the damage dealt. An Essence charge will be added to himself on every use. If it is used to kill an enemy hero, Dampeer gains 3 Essence charges.
Range: 150 Mana Cost: 100 Cooldown: 30 seconds
Target an enemy to deal 200/300/400 Magic Damage to them while Dampeer is healed for the damage done. Deals 30/50/70 more damage for each Essence Dampeer possesses and kills creeps instantly.
Adds an Essence whenever Consume is used, or 3 Essence if Consume kills an enemy hero. You may hold up to 3 (6) Essence at a time, which leave minimum 1 Essence (lose 3) upon death.

Heals Dampeer equal to post-mitigation damage.
If the target was killed within 0.25 seconds of being hit by Consume, Dampeer will gain Essences from it, even if he did not get the killing blow with it.
Still loses an Essence if only 1 Essence left upon death.

Dampeer has various item builds. Players often wonder what is better: Spellshards or Hellflower.
With Staff of the Master max damage of all spells is 1685. On a target with Magic Armor 5 output is 1281. If you use Spellshards you ignore 3 MA and deal 1516. On a target with 15 MA you deal 894. With spellshards you ignore 9 MA and deal 1247 dmg. To compare with Hellflower +15% to damage; on a target with 5 MA your damage is 1473 and on a 15 MA target 1028. (Version 4.6.1)
