Experience is used by Heroes to level up, which in turn increases its attributes and allows it to level up an ability.
Mechanics[edit | edit source]
Heroes collect Experience from dead enemy units within 1000 units. In most cases, experience is split between all allied heroes within range. However, there are a few sources of unshared Experience that only give Experience to the killer.
Dead heroes do not collect Experience, with the exception of hero kills if they are within radius. Grave Locket allows a hero to collect Experience in a 1500 radius its death location while dead.
Denies[edit | edit source]
Denies causes a unit to give less Experience to the enemy team. All NPC non-hero unit denies causes it to give 2/3 of its normal Experience values to Melee Heroes or 1/3 of it to Ranged Heroes.
If a hero or a player-controlled non-hero unit is denied, it does not give any Experience.

Heroes[edit | edit source]
When a hero is killed, it grants both split and unsplit Experience.
Heroes are worth a base Experience of 75 at Level 1, which increases by 65 + 5 additional increment per Level. For example, a Level 4 Hero is worth 75 + 70 + 75 + 80 = 300 Experience.
This Experience is evenly distributed among heroes within Experience range. However, hero experience is reduced for each hero collecting the experience past the second hero. Experience penalties are as follows:

Heroes will split this Experience among other allied heroes within 1000 units, including dead allies. However, dead heroes will receive 25% less experience from the killed hero.
In addition, the killer gains (12 * Level) Experience for itself. This Experience is unsplit.

- Alchemist's Bones grants 1.75x the Experience of the converted creep.
- As Skrap, collecting a Morsel generated by Scavenge grants 8 Experience. Purple Morsels grant 40 Experience instead.
Leveling[edit | edit source]
Heroes require 200 Experience to go from Level 1 to Level 2. The amount of Experience required to level increases by an increment of 100 per Level.
