Damage determines how much damage a unit deals with an autoattack, as well as certain abilities. Base Damage is the base amount of Damage an unit starts out with, plus the amount of its primary attribute if it's a hero.

Damage dealt = Total damage multiplier * ((Base Damage + primary attribute + flat Base Damage) * percentage Base Damage + Damage)
Effects with "±X% Base Damage" does not account for regular Damage modifiers.
It should be noted that buffs that grant bonus damage of a set type do not benefit from Critical Strike, Cleave, or effects that modify your autoattack damage type, even if the effect type matches your autoattack's effect type. These are not classified as Damage or Base Damage modifiers.

Various abilities grant bonus Attack Damage in different ways:
- Buff/Debuff/Aura: Grants bonus damage as a status effect
- Passive: Grants bonus damage as an invisible status effect
- On-Hit: Adds damage when the attack lands
The fundamental difference between these is that On-Hit bonuses aren't displayed in the tooltip (most of them display the total damage dealt as a pop-up) and don't factor into effects that scale with Attack Damage (Ex. Enfeeble, Feint's Siphon).
