Magic Immunity grants immunity against Magic Damage, as well as Magic type effects.
When a unit becomes Magic Immune, all Magic Damage and any status effects that are typed Magic are negated, and single-target abilities with the target type Magic cannot be used on it. Magic Immunity is not the same as effects such as 100% Magic Damage reduction (Ex. Protective Melody), as the latter only reduces damage, and does not protect against status effects and can still be targeted.
While Magic Immunity is largely a beneficial effect, it works for both sides. Allies cannot use abilities with the type Magic on Magic Immune units as well.
Some units are passively Magic Immune. Wild Hunters are the only Neutral units with innate Magic Immunity. Couriers are also immune to Magic, among other things. In addition, all Gadgets are Magic Immune.
Superior Magic effects will go through Magic Immunity. Abilities with target type of Superior Magic or have no type, usually ultimates, will bypass Magic Immunity in some form, typically only applying a status effect. Superior Magic Damage is reduced by Magic Armor, but ignores Magic Immunity.

Abilities that bypass Magic Immunity[ | ]
How each ability interacts with Magic Immunity varies. Any single-target Magic type abilities do not affect Magic Immune units at all. Some projectile abilities such as Arcane Missile can hit Magic Immune units, but does not have any adverse effects on them. Superior Magic type abilities can at least target Magic Immune units, and usually it will not damage the unit, but will apply a status effect on it. All forms of Mixed Damage and True Damage will ignore Magic Immunity. Mixed Damage is actually typed as both Superior Magic and Superior Physical, and True Damage has no type. Physical type abilities are unaffected by Magic Immunity.
Some abilities have multiple types of effects associated with it. For example, Mana Combustion, despite dealing Physical Damage, is blocked by Magic Immunity because Mana Combustion has the effect type of Magic.
Superior Magic Damage Sources[ | ]
Superior Magic Damage ignores Magic Immunity, but is reduced by Magic Armor.
